Audience Questionnaires

General Questionnaire

General Questionnaire Results

My survey shows females and males both did the survey and this resulted in 6 females participating, whereas the remaining 4 were males.

My questionnaire shows that ages from 12-25 participated in my survey, as you can see ages from 26 to 34 years old did not do my survey. This shows that I focused my target audience group specifically at this age as I gave my survey out matching that category. By only focusing on this age group it gave me a greater understanding of what my specific target audience is looking for and what they were interested in.

By looking at my chart I can see that from my survey there was a tie between R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap. Only one person preferred Reggae. Seeing from my chart I know that my audience prefer a range of these, which nowadays is formed in music.

Looking from my survey that took place, I can see that that both males and females enjoy surrealistic, interpretive music videos; a few preferred animation, narrative and concert forms of music video. Nevertheless, overall I focused on those which were more popular.

Looking at the figures in this chart, I can see that for my audience, characters were a vital aspect for them in music videos they watch. Location was said to be eye-catching for some of the audience.

Seeing from the chart, majority of the public watch music channels, 1-2 times a week and not more than that. Few others watch music channels 3 or more times a week, as shown on the chart.

Majority of the public said they watch music videos on YouTube and other websites, as shown on the chart. A small percentage said they liked viewing music on TV Channels. However, according to my questionnaire, no one watched music videos on artist’s blogs.

From my chart I can see that storytelling was most popular from the rest of the categories, in comparison to comical, thought provoking and live performances.

From looking at my chart half the public who did the survey said that making a music video allows albums and singles to be successful. Whereas a few said no, but overall it was positive.

My Music Video Questionnaire

My Music Video Questionnaire Results

By observing my chart, I can see that a vast number of people who did my survey felt that the location of my music video should be done in a room. A few others thought having it in a park and studio will emphasise more to the song.

The preferred choice in costume was casual clothing as you can tell from the chart. Half the people who completed the questionnaire chose casual clothing to be presented on the artist within the music video.

The option that was most selected on my questionnaire for colours on my music video was neutral colours. This was chosen because it was said that it would emphasise the sadness of the video. Others liked the idea of black and white to portray this through not just lyrics but the impression which the music video gives.

I asked on my questionnaire whether including characters would be necessary for my music video. Six of them said no as they believed the lyrics and the artist itself should do the storytelling and emphasise sadness.

When the question about whether my music video should be set during the day or night, the results were 50/50. Some thought having it in the day would portray that, even though, the lyrics are sad, the daylight will present to move on and be happy. Others thought night represents sadness very well.

Analysis of Results

From my overall conclusion on my questionnaire, I recognised that majority of my target audience preferred my music video of 'its ok' to be located in either a studio or a room, to emphasise the sadness of the song and what the artist is going through. A small number of my target audience believed having my location on the beach or in a park would be eye-catching. This tells me that having my location in a room or studio would portray the lyrics greatly.

The preferred choice of costume which my target audience chose is casual clothing for my artist. When I had asked my target audience behind the reason for why they chose casual clothing; they said it would represent the genre and song for the music video, as well as representing what the artist is going through.

By going through each questionnaire individually, I realised that many individuals liked the idea of having dull colours as the whole theme of the music video will flow well. Some of my target audience pointed out that I could add dull colours and when it came to may be adding flashbacks into my music video I could use black and white colours to represent the flashback. I believe by looking at the feedback on my questionnaire made me realise that having dull colours in my music video would reflect the whole scenario that is taking place. Also by having black and white effect for the flashback would add extra effect to the audience’s perspective and help them to understand the story.

A question which I asked to my audience was should there be characters involved or not? Majority said no as they felt that having backing dancers would be too much, as the whole video is about sadness and therefore including backing dancers would not emphasise this whatsoever. However, some of my target audience said having one male character involved in the video would tell the story well. A few others said that including a small group of dancers would be nice but this involved slow dancing, emphasising the story and expressing it through their dancing.

When it came to asking my audience whether they thought having my music video would be ideal in the day or night, it came to a 50/50 result. A couple of them said having it in the day would be nice but have just the camera focus on the artist would be better, so although it is day it shows the artists face to express the facial expressions. I thought about what my target audience said and believed that was a good idea. On the other hand, some said in the night would greatly express the whole concept and was ideal with the genre and mood of the song.

By looking at my questionnaire overall and from the feedback; there are some things which I shall include that my target audience have chosen. As the whole point of producing the music video is for them and what they like. I will be following up some concepts of the music video and bringing it together, in order to make sure the whole theme and scenario comes together expressing the storyline well.

  1. Careful: you say 'This shows that my music video is mainly based at the age group from 12-25 years old.' but this only shows who you asked, not who is interested.
