Audience

An audience is either an individual or a group of people who view or read a variety of media text, for example the radio, newspaper, magazine, TV and websites. These media platforms get loads of attention from the public on a day to day basis. If there wasn’t an audience then there would be no media, as we need an audience in order for media industries to promote and sell their product. Without the audience there would be no profit, causing big companies to fail. Mass media has become a huge thing in today’s society, it is important as a media industry that they attract the audience the right way by using different techniques in order to achieve this.

There are two types of audience, one is ‘Mass audience’ and the second type of audience is known as the ‘niche audience.’ Both types of audience mean something, mass media also known as broadcast audience can either take up mainstream or popular platforms such as TV shows, YouTube etc. The media target those in a very large group such as women, men, kids and teenagers etc. A niche audience is used by some media companies to influence a smaller group of people, niche audience are small group of people who have a unique interest in something.

There are different categories of audiences which come from different statuses, there is group A category within this category are those who are lawyers, doctors and many other well paid professions in the society. In the group B category there are people whose occupation can either be a teacher, fire fighter and others who also fall in the group of fairly well paid. Group C1 are individuals who have a job as a ‘white collar’ profession such as accountants, nurses etc. Another category is Group C2 which are those who have a blue colour profession, for example electricians, carpenters and plumbers. Group D are people who represent audience stereotypes, like drivers and manual workers. The category Group E is people who are students, unemployed or even pensioners.

My target audience falls in the category of C2, D & E. My video focuses on three different groups as my music video is based on a sad heartbroken song, which I believe will connect with the audience. I hope to achieve my aim with my target audience by making sure I include all features and effects, which achieves my target audience’s perspective of what they are looking for in my music video. Furthermore, by making sure the location is right, and making the whole music video relatable to my target audience so they are able to connect with the artist.
